When I was a kid, I watched my dad build model ships and marvelled at the hours he spent every night and the painstaking detail he went through to accomplish his art. He encouraged me to try my own hand, and when I started on a simple model, I saw a shortcut I thought would make the whole job faster. When I began, he noticed and immediately stopped me. I asked “why?” He said “there are no shortcuts, how you do anything is how you do everything”. It took me quite a while to understand what he meant, but in the end I realized his wisdom and it’s been one of the guiding principles in my life…and my profession!
